  • Does Biopsy Diagnostic Test Help In Ruling Out Diseases?

Biopsy diagnostic test is a medical procedure that primarily involves taking small samples of tissue to examine it under a microscope. The tissue sample can be taken from any part of the body surface or from within, which include skin, lungs, stomach, liver, and kidneys. The term biopsy diagnostic test is coined to refer to the tissue sample and the act of taking the sample.

Why is the biopsy advised?

A biopsy is done to detect the cause of some particular symptoms and also to detect a number of health conditions. In case, your doctor has already diagnosed your condition; Biopsy diagnostic test can help measure the severity of it, or at what stage your condition is. For instance, a biopsy test can detect how severely an organ like a kidney is damaged (Particularly determines the stage of cancer).

It is tough or impossible to be sure whether a particular lump or growth, be it on the skin or on the inside your body is cancerous, i.e., malignant just by feeling or looking at it. In such situations, the biopsy diagnostic test can help in providing information.

Biopsy diagnostic test can help in ruling out diseases like cancer, peptic ulcers (ulcers that affect the digestive system), hepatitis (inflammation of the liver), endometriosis (a condition in which the cells that usually line the womb is found somewhere else in the body), kidney disease and any specific infections.

Types of biopsy Diagnostic Test

Different types of biopsy can be used to detect a wide range of health conditions. The technique of biopsy screening entirely depends on the place from where the tissue sample is being taken. Doctors recommend biopsy screening before starting an operation so that an appropriate surgery can be carried out by looking into the sample diagnosis received

Types of biopsy test include:

  • Scraping cells - it means removing cells from the surface layer of tissue. For example, inside the cervix for the cervical screening test.
  • Punch biopsy - in this screening, a special instrument is used which punches a hole in the skin to collect the sample.
  • Needle biopsy - in this screening, a special hollow needle is used to collect tissue from an organ or the tissue under the skin.
  • Endoscopic biopsy - in this screening, an endoscope, i.e., a tube with a camera at the end, is used to remove tissue from areas like the stomach.
  • Excisional biopsy - in this a larger piece of tissue is removed in surgery.
  • Fine needle biopsy - in this a needle or syringe is used to collect the sample of cells like from a breast lump or thyroid.

Cancer Clinics has experienced and trained professional pathologists and doctors, who perform biopsy diagnostic test with utmost precision. Our approach is patient-specific, thereby highly customised with each case, and the highest degree of care and attention is given to details.
